BACKPACKING BASICS

Wednesday, May 15th 6:30-8:00PM

Our dynamic duo of Doug and Joe are back with their third Backpacking Basics clinic! This informative evening will help you plan your first backpacking trip, or make your third more comfortable, more scenic, or lighter. The discussion will address apparel, gear, food, and hygiene, and will focus on considerations unique to backpacking.

When: Wednesday, May 15th, from 6:30–8:00PM

Whether you're a beginner intrigued by the world of backpacking, or an experienced thru-hiker or section hiker eager to share your experiences and advice, this gathering is for you. Our event aims to bring together passionate outdoor enthusiasts interested in long-distance hiking adventures.

Calling all climbers! Bring your bags, carabiners and your QuickDraws to Good Wolf Gear's inaugural Climbing Gear Swap! Chaney, Leigh, and Matias will host this event in our parking lot, so reserve one of our tables or tarps, or bring your own.

SPRING HIKING WITH A NATURALIST

Come join Joe, our resident Master Naturalist, to learn about springtime in Northern Virginia. He’ll share his favorite plants and animals to look for and his favorite places to go.

POTOMAC APPALACHIAN TRAIL CLUB

Sunday, October 29th 1:00-4:00PM

Representatives from the PATC--Trail Guardians for over 1,000 miles of trails in MD, PA, VA & WV--will be in the shop to speak about their organization and discuss some of their incredible resources: PATC Maps and Cabins! Stop by their table to ask questions and share memories.
 

FALL-O-WEEN WITH A NATURALIST

Prepare for the fall hiking season with naturalist and GWG employee Joe! He'll discuss fall color, birds and migration, dead trees, and which local outdoor spaces we can visit to enjoy them.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK

Did you know the legendary Appalachian Trail is less than an hour from Good Wolf Gear? Whether you want to enjoy "the footpath for the people" for an afternoon or overnight, or you're just curious about its history and culture, come learn about this destination with Joe! (He spent the last 4 years hiking the entire Appalachian Trail!)

WOMEN IN THE OUTDOORS

Come hang out with Caroline and Isabel to discuss the nuances of being a woman in the outdoors! We have different needs in the outdoors, and we'd like a safe and friendly space to share our experiences and help find solutions. We'll swap tips, tricks, and traumas surrounding hygiene, safety, nutrition, and gear on the trail and in the backcountry.

SCOUTS: PHILMONT CLINIC

Attention Scouts, Scouters, parents and friends of Scouting! Bring your packing list and any questions so our staff (a former Scoutmaster, and a Philmont Ranger!) can outfit you for 12 days of high adventure! Doug and Chris know about the desert climate and rugged terrain of the Rockies and will find the best combination of new and broken-in gear to get you prepared.
